Description

This is my pick over coffee any day of the week, and its up there for even beating hot chocolate –now that’s definitely saying something!

Often referred to as the golden mylk if made with coconut or nut milks, turmeric lattes are recognised for being a major beneficial health drink.

So, what gives it the health status? Turmeric contains curcumin, which is what gives it its beautiful bright golden hue. Glowing with goodness, turmeric can act as a powerful antioxidant and contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties (Prasad, 2011).

Whilst turmeric has been used medicinally for nearly 4000 years, modern medicine began recognising its importance in the last 30 years. It works as a carminative and there is much research that shows how turmeric can support the digestive organs, especially in conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease or IBS (Prasad et al. 2011).

What’s more, if you include a tiny sprinkling of black pepper (like we have in ours), the piperine in the pepper enhances the absorption of curcumin in the body, so you can really reap the benefits!

I find this drink to be incredibly comforting and its great as a pick-me-up when I feel like I am getting a little run down and need some nourishment! Not to mention it satisfies any sweet cravings. What more could you want?

Ingredients

• 1 tbsp turmeric powder
• 1 tbsp almond butter
• 2 medjool dates (pitted)
• 1 cup filtered boiling water or heated coconut / plant-based milk
• 1 small sprinkle of cracked black pepper

Method

1. Blitz all ingredients in a blender and then pour into a mug. Enjoy.

For two mugs, simply double the recipe and for extra health-boosting benefits why not add a pinch of ground ginger and give it that extra kick?
