The fresh crisp air, the gorgeous shades of orange foliage, Autumn truly is one of the most beautiful seasons. So let’s fall in love with fall and give into hygge.

What is hygge? Hygge is a term coined by the Danish to describe that atmospheric feeling of cosiness, wellness and happiness. It’s that snug feeling when you’re wrapped up in blankets watching movies when it’s cold and rainy outside.

With that in mind, I’ve compiled 5 ways on how you can recreate that Hygge feeling this Autumn:

1. Take a walk in nature– whether you’re in a city or out in the countryside, wrap up and head towards the mounds of autumnal orange leaves that are scattered over the ground. The snapping of foliage and the orange colours are enough to stimulate feelings of hygge.
2. Relax with scented candles – choose scents that help you to relax. Try dreamy and woody scents such as ARDERE’S soothing lavender or our geranium and sandalwood candle. This, combined with the gentle glow of the candle flame provides the perfect lighting for hygge.
3. Eat seasonally – as the weather gets colder it’s no surprise that our bodies yearn for more warming hearty foods that will bring a sense of comfort. Spend a Sunday baking – if you are looking for some good winter warmers try making our celeriac soup with cracked black pepper or our anti-inflammatory turmeric latte.
4. Find a cosy pub with a log fire – never underestimate the hygge feeling that a traditional log fire can bring – I love the crackling warm sound that makes you feel all warm inside!
5. Book onto a bikram yoga class (even better- one that’s lit by candle light) – As we get into the colder months, if the thought of trekking outside to the gym isn’t the most appealing then escaping the cold and heading to a sauna-like room to stretch out is more likely to be up your street! Feel more centred and recharged.

My Hygge Autumn bucket list:

• I’ve still never ventured to Richmond Park, despite living in London for 4 years! So I’m definitely making it a must to head there for a long walk – I’m so eager to see all of the wild deer!
• This week definitely calls for my gf rhubarb, strawberry & ginger crumble recipe – you have to try it!
• I’m going to declutter and switch over my summer wardrobe for the winter – yep, hat, gloves and scarves out! Yay to the reappearance of the baker boy hats!
• I’m going to spend some time in the kitchen and create some new healthy recipes – I love eating seasonally and there are so many great and interesting vegetables that are in season in Autumn
• With the above in mind it’s time to dig out my slow cooker and make some hearty meals
• Invest in some warmer running gear, get up early and go for a run on a misty morning
• Buy some new organic face masks & natural bath oils – it’s the season for warm baths and self-care
• Finish a book – it’s rare these days I actually manage to complete one
• A must on the list is find a traditional English pub on a Sunday, camp out all afternoon and indulge in some good quality red wine with friends
